Genuflex is a brand new project from Finn Vine who, incidentally, used to be in the band White Rose Movement but this has got nothing to do with it. Genuflex is the extraordinary mix of cold and sometimes industrial electronic sounds with 50’s sonic balladry…somehow it feels like Elvis Presley - who obviously was not dead but hiding somewhere in the Arizona desert - would have heard Salem, fell in love with them and suddenly had this idea to come out of his retreat to get into a studio with the Witch-House paragons and record a few songs…dreaming that they would end up into the next David Lynch movie. Because Elvis has become a film addict along the years…The gloomy director wouldn’t turn them down, would he ? They certainly stand out as different to anything around, sometimes they are a bit too epic but over all they sound like big and beautiful electronic torch songs with a soul… And thanks God, Finn Vine is not a fervent Christian at all !
Here are the videos for 2 tracks taken from the ‘Bluedevotion’ EP, released last week on Black Records/Domino, as well as another for Genuflex’s cover of David Bowie’s Soul Love.
And possibly my favorite track :
